How long does it take to make a candle?

I was recently asked this question by my son.

I guess the short answer he expected is: "a few hours".

My response, however, went something like this:

"Do you mean how long does it take to research the process, wax, temperature, wick, fragrance, skill, container many many times and then to test each one and diligantly record obsverations, until you are satisfed with the results? Probably months, if not years"

Not exactly the succinct answer he was expecting, it seems an impossible task at times to impress a teenager.
